CHIMERA: Story details

CHIMERA
“A wild and unrealistic notion”

Paris, France; 2037. The world is in the middle of an unprecedented period of peace and there is even rumour that the Son of God has been reborn. But there are dark times ahead and a new, designer drug is about to hit the streets, “Chimera”.

“Chimera” allows the user to experience Heaven. But there is a deadly catch. “Chimera” is highly addictive and always fatal – and it’s been designed that way. When a user comes down, they see the world in a far grimmer light – after all, they are comparing it to their own experiences of Heaven and so they return for hit after hit. But the pain doesn't fade. It grows. Soon it becomes too painful to continue living in such a vile, over-populated, horrendous society. The user comes to a simple solution…make the change permanent.

But suicide is a mortal sin. You will not get into Heaven.

“Chimera” was created by Lucifer and designed to swell the ranks of the Hell-Spawn in preparation for the coming supernatural war. His "business partner", Remy La Bouffé is in charge of distribution and is the head of one of the few remaining criminal families operating in Europe.

Le Champs de Mars, famous a lifetime ago for The Eiffel Tower, has become a high-tech shanty-town of sorts, code named: “The Straights”. Home to the poor, prostitution, gambling and generally catering to the darker tastes of Humanity, it is the perfect testing ground for Chimera.

It is also the home of Lukas and Pierre Vaugn. Father and Son priests commissioned by The Pope to investigate the sudden rise in suicides within The Straights.

Gabriel Vaugn and Clair Bobak (agents of Interpol) are drawn into the investigation when Lukas, Gabriel's brother, takes his own life. Gabriel hasn't seen his father in twelve years since he ran away from home.
The case of "Chimera" takes Gabriel, Clair and Pierre deep into the belly of the seedy underworld that now inhabits Le Champs de Mars. They begin their investigations at the best and most infamous speakeasy... The Black Moon Bar, owned and operated by the supreme wheeler-dealer, Whisky - a man who offers complete neutrality but so desperately wants to be saved from the sins of his own past.

The Black Moon Bar is considered neutral ground in The Straights. It is from here that Lucifer's associates collect new test subjects for Chimera.
But a few months ago, Whisky made a deal with the devil and now the cost is weighing heavily on him. He sees Gabriel and Clair as his best hope for redemption.

Through the investigation, Gabriel learns that his brother had a relationship with Elizabeth - a prostitute, baiter for the Chimera trials and Demon. Gabriel finally comes face to face with Lucifer and, much like the users of Chimera, his world vision is changed forever.

Chimera is about fighting for the truth and the bonds of friends, family and enemies.

!!!Chimera Update!!!

Those of you who are part of the Facebook group (FRIED BRAIN PRODUCTIONS), you will already know... but for those of you who are not yet on the group...

I have been working on a revision of the Chimera story. I am fine-tuning it, adding some scenes, removing some scenes... making it an altogether more complete story and one that works much more fluidly with the Man of God saga which Chimera has always preceeded.

As soon as I have more details to post, they will be up on the blog and Facebook group.

Initial Concept Art for Chimera

Well here's a rough concept layout for page one of Chimera. It's just something I knocked together to get a rough idea of how it will look.

What's next in The Terraverse?

Not a day goes by I don't ask myself that same question...

And I always answer, "Anything I can think of!!!!!!"
...


... And I've thought of a lot.

Now, let me lay out the chronological timeline for The Terraverse so far.

1) Chimera - 2022
2) Paperchaser - 2037 to 3038
3) Altered State - 2101+

Well I can tell you that there are two totally different stories that come before Chimera - and they have barely any connection to any of the other stories.
One of the stories, Beautiful/Warfare, is set Centuries ago and has NO relation to any of the other stories in The Terraverse to date or anything I've even conceived in my mind. This project is, so far, built as three trilogies which interweave to expand their world even further.
The other story Father Time (tentative title) has a very wide-reaching timeline stretching all the way back to Prehistoric Earth and the Dinosaurs; and so far into the future that Man will not even recognise himself (round about 3500) -- Not bad for one book!

Another project I'm working on, Colony Wars, is set 2467 to 2491 and takes a more action/political look at the future of space colonisation, bringing into it, Earth, Mars and the Moon.

Then there's the comedy series Cold Retail and the long-in-developement The Writers and Prehistoria.

Now, slotting these into The Terraverse timeline...

1) Father Time - Prehistoric Earth to Present Day to 3500+
2) Beautiful/Warfare - 1185 to 1333
3) The Writers - Present Day
4) Cold Retail - Present Day
5) Chimera - 2022
6) Paperchaser - 2037 to 2038
7) Altered State - 2101+
8) Colony Wars - 2467 to 2491

Needless to say, that's quite an impressive time period for any universe.

But when will you get to experience these stories?!

Well, ideally I'd love to introduce you all to Altered State first off - you know, start small and expand from there.
Next I want to take you into the future for a while and get you to try Chimera
From there I think I'll go in two different directions at once with Beautiful/Warfare and Paperchaser - These are the two biggest projects I've got in developement and they'll take the longest to get right and write, let alone illustrate!

But I promise right here and right now that YOU WILL READ THESE STORIES!!

The Story Thickens

Wow, there's been so much happening since I last posted!

I've now got a completed first draft of the Book 1 and Book 2 of the Paperchaser saga...

... I've also got a first draft of Chimera, an independant Origin story for Vaugn.

One thing I've learned, there's always another layer and Vaugn's layers are intense!!!!

I won't say any more now but I promise I will post the synopsis for this story very soon.
